As of February 25, Nano Banana 2 has become one of the hottest topics in the AI developer community. On X, posts about Google’s latest image generation model — also known as the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image preview — are everywhere. 4K images are circulating widely, and speculation about the upcoming release is growing louder by the day.

As widely known, Nano Banana Pro — built on Gemini 3 Pro — is considered almost “legendary” in the AI image generation world. The original Nano Banana (the nickname for Gemini 2.5 Flash Image) caused a major stir when it launched last year. If Nano Banana 2 is released, the industry is eager to see how much it will improve on Nano Banana Pro in terms of performance and price.
According to multiple independent sources on X, Nano Banana 2 is the nickname for the upcoming Gemini 3.1 Flash Image preview. It promises 4K image generation, faster speeds, and a lower price compared to Nano Banana Pro. On February 20, Google unveiled its next-generation flagship model, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and the image-focused Gemini 3.1 Flash is expected to follow shortly.
TestingCatalog News, a media outlet popular with AI enthusiasts, tweeted today that Google is preparing to release the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image preview. The Nano Banana 2 (Flash) model, based on Gemini 3 Flash, was tested last December but the launch was delayed — it may be coming soon. The outlet also shared an image believed to have been generated by Nano Banana 2.
He shared another tweet from X user MarsEverythingTech, posted on February 24, which showed some early 4K test images from Nano Banana 2 (the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image preview). As you can see in the images below, all four look pretty impressive in terms of detail and text rendering.

Later, a well-known developer named Legit tweeted that a new anonymous model, anon-bob-2, has gone live. It’s likely the new Nano Banana Flash model on Arena.ai (formerly LMArena), powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. However, after checking Arena.ai, Zhidx didn’t find the model — it’s possible the test version has already been taken down.
He also shared evidence of the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image on Google Cloud’s enterprise AI platform, Vertex AI. As shown in the image below, when you type in “Gemini-3” and scroll down, the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model appears in the list.

Another user said, “Nano Banana 2 (the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image preview) is already active on Arena.ai’s image battle mode under the anonymous user anon-bob-2. One of the things the community has managed so far: it’s awesome!”

If the leaks are true, Nano Banana 2 could combine the best of the previous two generations: the Flash series’ speed and affordability, along with visual quality that’s on par with or even better than Nano Banana Pro.
For example, its generated images might support native 4K resolution, handle multi-character scenes more effectively, and show more consistent details in anatomy, reflections, and lighting. According to testers, all of this comes with lightning-fast generation speeds, far surpassing the Pro version, which is known for being slower.
Stable Diffusion’s blog speculated that internal testing of Nano Banana 2, originally planned for December 2025, was delayed due to quality calibration issues. The model is reportedly ready now, and its image capabilities could be released in the coming days or weeks.
If the leaked info holds up, Nano Banana 2 could end up being a super-fast, 4K-capable model that costs less than Nano Banana Pro while delivering similar visual quality — potentially sparking a new wave of excitement in the industry.
Wow wow wow wow! ⭐
